Best ways to keep your car insurance premiums down

Is third party cover the cheapest option?

In some cases fully comprehensive cover can be a lot cheaper than third party insurance.

This is due to the fact that insurers may think that drivers with riskier profiles often tend to go for third party insurances. So make sure that you do your research before buying third party cover or fully comprehensive cover.

Always make sure that your car is in a secure place.

Insurance companies should give you a better deal if you park your car in a garage or on a driveway, if this is a problem there are other alternatives such as –

  • An approved alarm
  • Immobiliser

*An immobiliser is a security device that is fitted to your car to prevent the engine from turning on unless you use the “correct key” so “hot wiring” will not work on your car if you have one of these devices fitted in

Low risk driver

Hold your head up high if you have paid extra for any advanced driving courses or pass plus schemes as some insurance companies will give you a considerable discount if you have passed any of these courses.

Drive an average car

It’s always best to choose a car that’s not too expensive to repair; these are usually popular cars. And remember that adding any modifications like alloys to your car will end up costing more.
